WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

MEETING AT CARTERTON. The monthly meeting of the Carterton Women’s Institute was held on Thursday, Miss Wolters presiding over a fair attendance of members. Miss Meyrick presented a report of the Bush Wairarapa Federation meeting held at Eketahuna on October 27 and Mrs Trapp one of the meeting held in Masterton on November 2, when the new Wairarapa Federation was formed. This new Federation consists of fifteen, from Mauriceville and southwards. Mrs L. Sorenson mixed a Xmas cake and gave the recipe. Mrs Martin Johnson ably demonstrated icing with tubes. She was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks and presented with a bunch of sweet peak Afternoon tea was served and the National Anthem brought the meeting to a conclusion. OPAKI MEETING. The'monthly meeting of the Opaki Women’s Institute took place recently, Mrs Buick presiding over a good attendance.

Miss Robinson gave a report on the Wairarapa Federation meeting held at Masterton on November 2. The demonstration took the form of book binding and was given by Mrs Tankersley, members being keenly interested. Mrs Marchbank gave the “golden thread,” her subject being “Katoomba and the Blue Mountains.” It was decided to hold a bridge and 500) evening on Tuesday, Npvember 15, at the home of Mrs Wingate. The competitions for the month resulted as follows: —Best darn in sock: Miss Rollo 1, Mrs Miller 2. Table jelly: Miss Rollo 1. Afternoon tea was served, the hostesses being Miss Rollo and Mrs Marchbank. KOPUARANGA GATHERING. Mrs S. J. Clarke presided over . a good attendance at the monthly meeting held in the hall on Thursday. A report of the half yearly council meeting held at Eketahuna was given by Mrs Jarrett, and Mrs Kenny reported on the formation meeting of Wairarapa Federation held at Masterton. Mrs I. D. Cameron, of Mauriceville, gave an interesting travel talk (New Zealand to Tahiti). A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Cameron.

The roll call was “How we would like to celebrate our birthday.” Competitions resulted as follows: — Best bloom: Mrs Kenny, 1; Mrs Reside, 2; Mrs E. C. Cottle, 3. Shortbread: Mrs Evans, 1; Miss M. Kenny, 2; Miss M. Wright, 3. Novelty from scraps: Mrs Clarke, 1; Mrs Donald, 2; Mrs Jarrett, 3. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames A. Donald and Reside.

A happy gathering was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem.
