LABOURER KILLED
STRUCK BY ENGINE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, November 11. Struck by the engine of a passenger train near Otahuhu railway station early this morning, Charles Ernest Thoms, aged 63, labourer, residing at Otahuhu, was killed almost instantly. The scene of the fatality was’a short distance south of the overhead bridge. Thoms, who was employed at the Otahuhu railway workships, was crossing the main down line on the way to his employment. He apparently failed to observe the approach of a southbound suburban train, which is not scheduled to stop at Otahuhu. He was struck by the front of the engine and thrown clear of the line. He leaves a wife and a grown-up family.
