GREYTOWN

LEAGUE OF MOTHERS GARDEN PARTY YESTERDAY (“Times-Age” Special.) The final meeting of the Greytown Branch of the League of Mothers took the form of a garden party, and was held in the grounds of Mr and Mrs W. J. Knell, West Street yesterday afternoon. Mrs A. H. Bull (president) presided over a large attendance of members and friends. The meeting opened with the League hymn and prayer. The choir, under Mrs H. E. Webster, rendered four glees, which were much appreciated. The large totara tree on the lawn

afforded good shade from the heat of the afternoon. Croquet was played by several of the members. Afternoon tea was a special feature being partaken of on the lawn. The function terminated with a hearty vote of thanks to Mrs Knell, and the wish that this would be made an annual affair. The singing of the National Anthem brought the proceedings to a close. Personal. Mrs Stunell, senr, of “Stirchley,” Papawai, is at present in the Greytown Hospital. ' , Gooseberry Season. The gooseberry picking season has. commenced in Greytown, this fruit being the first to be marketed. Greytown Cheese. The manager of the Greytown cheese factory, Mr Kearney, recently had 100 crates of cheese graded at 94. So far this season 65 per cent of the output has been graded fine. OBITUARY. , MRS SELINA THOMPSON. The death occurred at a Masterton private hospital this morning of Mrs Selina Thompson, widow of the late Mr Thomas Fraser Thompson, formerly engineer to the Buller County Council. The late Mrs Thompson had resided in Greytown for many years and she was widely known and highly respected by a host of friends who will learn with deep regret of her death. She came to Greytown with her ’husband from Westport and the late Mr Thompson died in Greytown about 16 years ago. She was an active member of the Greytown Prebyterian Church both in Westport and in Greytown and was also a keen member of the Greytown' Croquet Club. The late Mrs Thompson, who was in her 78th year, is survived by two daughters, Mesdames C. E. Butcher, ■ Greymouth, Miller Hope, Masterton, and one son, Mr J. F. Thompson, Greytown. Another son, Mr Sinclair Thompson, of Pirinoa, diet? some time ago. The funeral will take place tomorrow, leaving the residence of Mrs Miller Hope, 21 Macara Street, Masterton, at 2 p.m. and later from the Greytown Presbyterian Church for the Greytown Cemetery.
