GARAGE PROPRIETOR FINED, AUCKLAND, November 7. Alexander Davie, aged 50, garage proprietor, admitted in the Magistrate’s Court a charge- of intoxication while in charge of a motor-car in Wellesley Street. On Saturday, at 8 p.m., the police said, when crossing an intersection, Davie’s car collided 'with the rear right hand portion of a truck driven by a Chinese vegetable hawker. Davie told the Chinese he would pay for the damage. Three-quarters of an hour after his arrest a doctor certified him as slightly intoxicated. He was fined for a similar offence in 1931. Agreeing with counsel for Davie that each case of the kind should be treated on its merits or demerits, Mr J. Morling, S.M., said this was a borderline case in which one felt uncertain whether to send to prison or not. However, Davie did show appreciation of the position after the accident. Davie was fined £3O and disqualified from driving for 12 months. Davie undertook to take out a prohibition order.
