HOUSEHOLD HINTS

When paperhanging, painting, or kalsomining woodwork, give alt nailheads a coating of shellac to prevent rusting.

A paste of oatmeal and kerosene rubbed well into the hands and fingers will remove almost any stain. Rinse first in cold water and then in hot to remove the smell of kerosene.

Before putting in new window cords, rub them well with soap. This preserves them, and they will last much longer. When sink-pipes become blocked, place as much chloride of lime as possible in the pipes, then let hot water trickle through, and the trouble will disappear. If a good portion of a roast joint is left over, soak it for 30 minutes in cold water and then roast again for about five minutes. It -will then be like a fresh joint.
