FIGHTING FORCES
BIG ADDITIONS PLANNED IN AMERICA
MIGHTY AIR ARMADA POSSIBLY TEN THOUSAND PLANES. EXPANSION OF MILITARY RESERVES. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. WASHINGTON, November 6. The Press gives credence to reports that President Roosevelt has decided to ask Congress to authorise one of the world's mightiest air fleets, numbering at least 7000, and possibly 10.000, firstline planes. It is also reported that the President has plans for the re-equipment of 400,000 regular soldiers and national guardsmen, and for hastening the organisation and equipment of a million reserves, capable of taking the field within a few months in the event of war.
The President is also to order a speeding-up of the battleship construction programme and the re-opening of the Great War emergency plants, which were closed after the Armistice. The navy is immediately re-equip-ping its West Virginia armour-plate factory and reopening its New Orleans naval yard.
