FIRE IN MASTERTON

POWNALL STREET RESIDENCE SLIGHTLY DAMAGED. OUTBREAK IN WASHHOUSE. Although a fire which broke out yesterday afternoon in the washhouse of a Masterton residence, 88 Pownail Street, had a good hold when the Fire Brigade arrived, it was brought under control within a few minutes. The washhouse was severely damaged and the kitchenette adjoining, into which the fire was just making its way, was slightly damaged by heat, smoke and water. The brigade received the call by telephone and street alarm at 3.45 p.m. Two engines and eleven men in change of Superintendent T. B. Clark turned out. By the use of the pumps, a splendid force of water was brought on to the fire, which was quickly extinguished. The house, one of seven rooms, is owned and occupied by Mrs C. W. Williams and is insured in the State Office. The contents are also covered by insurance.
