MANAWATU SHOW

FINE WEATHER FOR SECOND DAY LIST OF SPECIAL PRIZES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N.. November 4. The sun struggled all day to pierce the heavy clouds which hung over the district today for the second day of the Manawatu and West Coast Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s fiftythird annual spring show. In spite of rain which threatened in the morning, the day kept fine and warm but overcast. Rain fell overnight, but a northerly breeze dried the and conditions were much more enjoyable than yesterday. '

Though the attendance was small yesterday, gate receipts sho'wed the satisfactory total of £l9B, compared with £lB7 for the first day of the show in 1936. the nearest with which a comparison can be made. The rise in receipts was due, no doubt, to the attractions at the night show. Fortunately the night remained fairly fine, the few showers having no effect on the trade done by sideshows. In the entertainment hall was much to interest the crowds. Last year, when the Royal Show was held at Palmerston North,. first-day gate receipts totalled £4BB .Attendances throughout today indicate that the second-day gate receipts will be more substantial than last With most of the judging completed today, chief interest centred on the exhibition of stock, produce, dogs and horse competitions.
