Mr J. P. Hornabrook, of Masterton, left yesterday for Dunedin where he will take part in the golf tournament. The Hon. W. E. Parry, Minister of Internal Affairs, left Wellington for Auckland by the Main Trunk express yesterday afternoon. Mr.T. C. A. Hislop, Mayor of Wellington, who has been suffering from tonsilitis for the past fortnight, has been advised by his doctor not to resume his official duties before Monday.

The Duke and Duchess of Windsor have leased for two years a private mansion in the Avenue Sauchet, Paris, from the Comtess de Sabini, an Independent Cable Service message states. It is understood that furniture will be brought from Fort Belvedere. Mr R. J. Weir, Officer in Charge of the Labour Department at Timaru, is at present visiting Masterton. Until about eighteen months ago, Mr Weir was in charge of the Masterton branch of the Labour Department and he is renewing acquaintance with many friends in this district.

Herbert F. Edwards, only gon of Mr H. G. Edwards, manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Apia, died this morning in the Apia Hospital after a two months’ illness, at the age of eighteen years, a message from Apia reports. Mr H. G. Edwards, prior to his transfer to Apia, was Accountant at the Masterton branch of the Bank of New Zealand.

Mr W. H. Price, Wellington branch manager for the Union Steam Ship Co is severing his connection with the company at the end of next month, after over 50 years in its employ. There were only a few small boats belonging to the company when he joined, and he has seen it grow through the years to its present strength. He was educated at Otago Boys’ High School, and joined the company in January, 1889, at Invercargill.

At the conference of the Associated Chambers of Commerce Mr M. S. Myers (Dunedin), vice-president for the past year, was appointed to succeed Mr A. G. Lunn (Auckland), as president. Other officers elected were; Temporary vice-president, Mr M. G. C. McCaul; New Zealand executive, apart from those to be appointed later by district chambers. Captain S. Holm and Messrs A. J. Curtis, A. R. Hislop, A. L. Wall (Wellington), A. G. Lunn (Auckland), E. Darroch (South Canterbury). C. P. Tapley (Invercargill), F. H. Bethwaite (Wanganui), and Gordon-Fraser (Taranaki).
