TYNESIDE CLUB. CLOSE OF SEASON. (“Times-Age” Special.) About ninety members and friends attended the closing of the Tyneside Golf Club’s links during the weekend. A very enjoyable mixed foursome was played and there were two competitions for controlled drives, one for ladies and one for men, after which trophies won during the season were presented by the president (Mr lan Macßae). In welcoming the visitors Mr MacRae said that though Tyneside was a small club and was not very fortunate in winning matches with other clubs, members always enjoyed those matches to the full and he hoped that those clubs similarly enjoyed them. The following trophies were presented by the president:—Men’s senior championship (H. R. H. Beetham Challenge Cup and miniature), E. B. Booth; runner-up, N. Kummer. Men’s junior championship (lan Macßae Challenge Cup and miniature), W. M. Bannister: runner-up, D. E. Williams. Cooper Cup (net aggregate), K. McDonald. Captain’s trophy (knock-out), W. Gillies. Eclectic competition: K. McDonald. Flag competition, K. McDonald. Bogey competition, lan Talbot. Stableford bogey, lan Talbot. Ladies’ championship (A. D. S. Duncan Challenge Rose Bowl), Miss R. Burrows; runner-up, Miss Bartholomew’. L. V. Sykes Cup (net aggregate), Miss R. Burrows. Secretary’s trophy (knock-out), Miss R. Burrows. Eclectic competition, Mrs 6. L. Sykes. Flag competition, Mrs W. Gillies. Bogey competition, Mrs W. Gillies. Stableford bogey, Miss Bartholomew. Fourball bogey, Miss R. Burrows and Mr R. Bayliss. Mixed foursome, Miss N. Harris and O. R. Williams.
The competitions for closing day were won as follows: Mixed foursome, J. Armstrong and Miss Bartholomew. Men’s controlled drive, J. Armstrong. Ladies’ controlled drive, Miss N. Harris.
MASTERTON CLUB SATURDAY’S GAMES . A Stableford competition will be played on the Lansdowne links on Saturday by members of the Masterton Golf Club. Members are asked to arrange their own partners. Those players still remaining in unfinished competitions are asked to play their matches within the next two weeks. The match against the Miramar club, which was to have been played during the weekend has been postponed until early in the next season.
