WEEKEND CAMP

OPERATIONS BY COMPOSITE BATTALION. . - Last weekend the local unit of the 2nd Composite Battalion .spent a very pleasant and instructive camp at Mr R. T. Buick’s property. Under Lieutenant I. A. Hart the Lewis gun sections were instructed in the use of ground and the formations of sections in attack and defence. The Mortars, under Second-Lieut. A. S: McWhinnie, spent Sunday morning in firing at various targets and some very accurate shooting was witnessed. In the afternoon both units were engaged in an attack on a position held by a section of Mounted Rifles. At the end of the operations Captain Williams explained how and why the units Would consolidate after having gained their objective. Next weekend a camp will probably be held at Castlepoint or Riversdale and those who have thought about joining the. local force are urged to do so, that they may enjoy the full benefit of these healthy and instructive weekends.
