MASTERTON SALE
N.Z. LOAN AND MERCANTILE The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. Ltd report: —We held our usual weekly sale yesterday when a large yarding of sheep and a few fat cattle came forward. There was an oversupply of fat sheep and prices for these came back considerably, more into line with this season’s fat prices for export which are well below last season’s. However, all our vendors met the market. The store sheep also showed a big drop on recent values. Fat cattle were the only bright spot in the market and sold particularly well. We had a total clearance at the following rates: — Fat sheep:—Fat woolly wethers, 23s to 24s 9d; shorn, 17s 9d to 19s; shorn maiden ewes, 17s to 17s 6d; fat shorn s.d. ewes, 14s 6d; fat shorn ewes, 10s, 11s, 11s 6d, 12s to 12s 4d. Store sheep: —Good woolly wether hoggets, 19s 6d, 20s to 20s Id; others, 16s 6d to 17s 6d; ewe hoggets, 28s 3d; shorn 2-tooth wethers, 15s to 16s; small b.f. m.s. 2-tooths, 12s 6d to 14s Id. Cattle:—Fat P.A. heifers, £9 10s to £8 10s; Hereford heifers, £8 7s 6d; fat cows, £7 15s, £8 to £8 10s; yearling Jersey heifers, £3 10s; store Jersey cows, £2 15s to £3 17s 6d.
FARMERS’ CO-OPERATIVE DISTRIBUTING CO The N.Z. Farmers’ Co-operative Distributing Co Ltd report on the Masterton sale as follow: —We offered large pennings of fat and store sheep. There was an all-round drop in prices, but vendors met the market and a total clearance was effected. The following are some of the sales. —Prime fat shorn wethers, 19s to 19s 6d; fat b.f. 2-ths, 18s; fat hoggets, 21s; fat woolly ewes, 15s 6d to 18s 3d; prime shorn ewes, 11s 6d to 12s; others, 10s to 10s 3d; fourtooth wethers, 17s to 18s; best w.f.w. hoggets, 19s to 20s; best b.f. hoggets, 18s 9d; others, 12s to 14s; ewes and lambs, 13s 6d (all counted); store ewes, 7s; best weaner pigs, 25s to 30s 6d; small, 17s 6d to 235. , • WRIGHT, STEPHENSON & CO LTD. Wright, Stephenson and Co Ltd.:— We held our usual weekly sale at Masterton yesterday, when a good entry of sheep was submitted to a fair attendance. More fats than usual came forward and sold at reduced rates. Stores also met with a dull market, shorn and woolly hoggets being hard to quit and prices showed a sharp decline. Ewes with lambs at foot were also easier. Following are our prices: —Shorn fat ewes, 12s to 13s; woolly fat ewes, 16s to 19s; fat woolly hoggets, 21s to 22s sd; fat shorn wethers, 18s 6d to 20; shorn hoggets, 16s to 17s; .cull hoggets, 9s to 9s 8d; weaner pigs, 23s 6d to 28s 6d; slips, 30s. DALGETY & CO., LTD. Messrs Dalgety and Co. Ltd., report on the weekly Masterton sale held yesterday as follows: —A large entry of all classes of sheep came forward and was offered to a good attendance of buyers. Bidding throughout was restricted, and prices showed a drop on those obtained at the last sale, fat sheep in particular being well below our last quotations. The first shorn 2-th wethers of the season were yarded, and these met rather a disappointing market, selling at below vendors’ ideas of value. Store condition 2-ths made from 16s to 16s 6d. A total clearance was effected however, and the following will. indicate values:—Woolly ewes with good b.f. lambs at foot, 12s (all courted); store 2-th wethers, 16s; woolly white face wether hoggets, 19s 7d, fat ewes (shorn), Ils, 11s nd, 11s 9d; light do., 9s to 9s 6d; fat B.F. mixed sex 2-ths, 19s 8d; fat B.F. maiden ewes, 16s 7d; fat wethers, 19s 6d.
