BRITISH MUSIC SOCIETY
ENJOYABLE GROUP EVENING. PRESENTATION TO MRS HOPE. On Monday evening at Mrs C. W. Rutherford’s residence, Tararua Street, the final group evening of the British Music Society was held, there being a large attendance of members. • Mrs T. Jordan (president), on welcoming members, said they had had a most successful season, and that the final concert was being held in St. Matthew’s School Hall on November 14. The recital was to be given by Paul Schramm, the famous Austrian musician. Mrs Jordan said she wished to congratulate Miss Masters, who had just completed her A.R.S.N. Another delightful duty Mrs Jordan said she had to perform was to present to Mrs Miller Hope a posy as a small appreciation with the good wishes of the society. She said Mrs Miller-Hope’s untiring energy and generosity in giving her valuable time in training the singing circle and group leader was greatly appreciated by singers and listeners alike. Mrs Miller-Hope, in reply, said that all she had done for the Music Society was a joy to her, but Miss Gaudin had been her right hand helper on all occasions. She thanked the president and members very much for their gifts and kind words. Mrs Carmine then asked Mrs Jordan to accept a posy from the society, as she had been a keen and enthusiastic member since its . inception several years ago. Mrs Miller-Hope and Mrs Jordan were accorded musical honours. The programme of the evening comprised both musical and vocal items, with annotations by members, dealing briefly with the lives, education and characteristics of composers. The programme was as follows: — Instrumental items: Miss Masters, “Tarantelle” (Chopin); Miss Stubbings, "Andante” (Beethoven); Mrs Barns, “Butterfly” (Chopin); Mrs Hessey, “Fantasie Impromptu” (Chopin); Mr and Mrs Hope, Symphony No. 5 (Beethoven). Her work was greatly appreciated. Miss Gaudin then moved a vote of thanks to the hostess of the evening, which was carried by acclamation. The singing of the National Anthem bought a delightful evening to a close.
