UNDERGROUND RAILWAY RECONSTRUCTION REMARKABLE ENGINEERING FEAT. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, October 31. A remarkable engineering feat was accomplished yesterday when one of the most complex change-over schemes ever dealt with on the London transport system was effected and the new underground railway station of Aidgate East came into existence. The scheme of reconstruction at Aidgate East cost about £1,000,000. - For two years the modernisation of the railway system at this point has been progressing without interference with the service. Yesterday the final stage was reached and the station was closed for 28 hours to enable the engineers to lower 1400 feet of track seven feet, remove the temporary platforms and’ staircases and complete the new booking office floor. The first train ran over the reconstructed route early this morning.
