OIL BORING
OPERATIONS NEAR GISBORNE MINISTERIAL STATEMENT (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHRUCH, November 1. “Progress with oil-boring operations near Gisborne has been wonderfully good, and it should not be long now before we have a definite idea of the possibilities of finding a flow of oil in this country,” said the Minister of Mines, the Hon P. C. Webb,, in an interview yesterday. Mr Webb said that the presence or otherwise of flow oil would be proved before Christmas. Mr Webb, who has been unwell recently, will go to the site of the boring operations after he has had a rest, and will watch the first few 100 feet of steel casing being placed in position. Preparations have proceeded rapidly so far, but the rate of progress with boring will depend on the type of ground that is encountered. “It should not be long now before we have established or disproved the existence of flow oil in New New Zea- I land in payable quantities,” said Mr Webb.
