MANAWATU SHOW

HOST OF NEW ATTRACTIONS. With the arrival of a special train yesterday afternoon carrying stock that had been exhibited at the Royal Show at Hamilton last week preparations for the Manawatu Spring Show which is being held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday of this week have reached the concluding stages. Already a large number of cattle, sheep and pigs have found a temporary home at the Showgrounds in anticipation of the big event. Splendid support has been accorded the first shearing championship of New Zealand sponsored by the Young Farmers’ organisation. This will be no ordinary competition. No less than ten shearers will compete at a time on a board 60 feet long, giving a very good impression of what happens on a large sheep station at the height of the season. Scores of stewards will ensure that everything goes off at the maximum speed. ■ Seating accommodation for over 1000 people has already been’ erected and with the addition of a big number of forms it will be possible tc« seat a further one or two hundred. It is anticipated, however, that many spectators arriving late will be forced to stand. The official opening, which will be carried out by the Moyar of Palmerston North. Mr A. E. Mansford, on Thursday afternoon during the parade of prize-winning cattle and horses on the oval, will be simplified by the use of the new public address system which the association has installed in time for this Show. The address will be given from the main stand which is now completely roofed, providing seating accommodation for a large number of the public. The address system and the splendid grandstand are facilities that show the association is alive to the need for catering for its patrons in a progressive manner and the society is to be congratulated on what it has done.
