A recess was granted in the spy trial until Monday after Busch had testified that Turrou had given the tip enabling Dr Griebl, the Nazi leader in the United States, to escape to Germany before a grand jury indictment could be entered.

He said Turrou telephoned Dr Griebl with the information that the subpoena had expired and it would be a week before a substitute could be issued, after which Dr Griebl embarked.
