N.S.W. LABOUR PARTY
CONTROL BY CONFERENCE RETAINED. CAUCUS REFUSED RIGHT TO ELECT LEADER. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright. SYDNEY, October 30. By 524 votes to 41 a special conference of the New South Wales Labout Party, which concluded today, rejected a motion which sought to give the Parliamentary caucus the right to elect its leader. That right thus remains with the State conference, while the Leader, Mr J. T. Lang, will retain the right to select a Labour Cabinet when necessary. The Federal Labour leader, Mr J. Curtin, addressed the conference yesterday appealing for unity, adding. “We cannot have an autocracy or dictatorship in the Labour movement. He contended that the Parliamentary party should be the master of its own acts. No man should enter the caucus room with instructions from the outside executive on how to vote. Mr Lang arrived after Mr Curtin’s departure and was given a tremendous ovation. He addressed the conference lengthily today. He did not refer to Mr Curtin’s speech and carried the conference with him.
