GARDEN COMPETITION
OVER THIRTY ENTRIES RECEIVED ~..‘(4 The garden competition being promoted by the Masterton Horticultural Society has attracted a gratifying number of entries. Altogether there are 33, fourteen in the half-acre garden class and nineteen in the quar-ter-acre class.
Prizes of £2 10s, £1 10s and £1 for first, second and third awards have been donated for each class by i.iessrs T. Jordan and P. J. Borthwick respectively, while in addition, a champion garden will be selected, the winner of which will receive bulbs valued at £1 10s donated by Mr C. L. Needham and will hold the Home Gardens Champion Trophy for the season.
The gardens will be judged early in November and in February and points will be allotted as follow:— Design and harmony 20, neatness 10, flowers 10, vegetables 10, cultivation 10, lawns 20, fruit 10, trees and shrubs 10.
