VALUED SERVICES

MRS T. JORDAN ENTERTAINED.

GIRL GUIDE GATHERING

On Saturday afternoon the Masterton Girl Guides Association held a most successful function in honour of Mrs T. Jordan, who for over twelve years has been District Commissioner for Masterton. Mrs H. H. Daniell had kindly lent her charming garden for the occasion, and the beautiful sunshine, green lawns, arifd gay flowering shrubs formed a perfect setting for a bright and informal demonstration of the appreciation all those who had been associated with Mrs Jordan felt for her devoted service to Guiding and her great qualities of leadership. After a short programme by the Guides and Brownies, beautiful bouquets were presented to Mrs Jordan, Mrs Macßae and Miss N. Ractliffe. Mrs Macßae, the first president of the Masterton Association, then presented Mrs Jordan with a silver hot water jug and beautifully engraved crystal bowl from the Association and extended their appreciation of her past services and then best wishes for her future happiness. On behalf of the Guides and Brownies, Miss Nora Ractliffe, District Captain, then presented two handsome volumes on Guiding activities throughout the world. Mrs Martin Tweed. Provincial Commissioner, and Miss Wolters, Divisional Commissioner, both spoke of the wonderful service Mrs Jordan had given to the Guide movement during her period of office. Mrs Tweed also referred to the important and interesting programme for 1939, including the centennial celebrations and appealed to all guides and guiders foi- full co-oper-ation and assistance to make their effort a worthy contribution to the celebrations.

Mrs Jordan, on rising to reply, was greeted with cheers and musical honours. After thanking them all for their beautiful gifts and kind remarks, she stressed the urgent need for more Guiders, and assured them that, though the work might seem arduous, they would get more out of guiding in pleasure and instruction than what they put into it.

Apologies were received from Mesdames J. H. Irving (president). D. Riddiford (District Commissioner, Featherston), Dawson (Nelson), Moser, A. Caselberg, Corskie, Forsyth. Lamb, and Mr H. Thomas, Group Captain of Scouts.
