BISHOP ENTHRONED COLOURFUL SERVICE (By Telegraph—Press Association.). NAPIER, October 30. This morning the Rt Rev G. V. Gerar, Bishop of Waiapu, was enthroned in the cathedral church of St John the Evangelist. Like the bishop’s consecration last Friday, the service was colourful and stirring, although the enthronement ceremony was a modification of the customary rites. The church was filled, and many people were unable to obtain entry. Because of the temporary nature of the church, the Napier cathedral having been destroyed in the earthquake of 1931, the full form for the enthronement of a bishop was not observed. Instead of the bishop knocking on the church and demanding access, that portion of the service was carried out at the sanctuary steps. IThe significance of the 'enthronement was the installation of the bishop in his own cathedral. That of the consecration service was his elevation to the rank of prelate.
