GREYTOWN
METHODIST CHURCH. ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS. ("Times-Age” Special.) The 73rd anniversary celebrations of the Greytown Methodist Church during the week were very successful. On Sunday morning there was a parade of the local Guides, Brownies, Scouts and Cubs, and the service was an impressive one. The evening service was conducted by the minister of the church, the Rev. H. E. Harkness. During the service, the choir rendered special anthems, and a solo was sung by Mrs H. Farley. At both services, mention was made of the urgent need for funds to carry out necessary church renovation work. It was stated that the full amount required was in the vicinity of £2OO. On Wednesday evening, the anniversary was continued with a birthday social. An excellent attendance of interested listeners was entertained by a radio programme from Station IGM, Greytown. Greetings were extended by Canon J. H. Sykes, of the Anglican Church, and the Rev. H. White, of the Carterton Methodist Church. The Rev. K. P. Lilly, of the Presbyterian Church, also sent greetings, while regretting his being unable to be present.
Brief reports of various church activities were presented, and during supper, the birthday cake was cut by Mrs W. H. Sadler, president of the Ladies’ Guild.
Great interest was centred in the presentation b£ an anonymous friend, of a sketch of the church, outlined in coins, as a help towards the fund. z As a result of the' anniversary celebrations, nearly £2O was raised, a very gratifying result. In view of the urgent need for repair work, an appeal is made to all who are interested in the preservation of one of the historic buildings of the district, to do what they can to help forward this very worthy object. The minister of the church would be grateful to receive any donations towards the Renovation Fund, so that the work may be put in hand as soon as possible. Hotel Changes Hands. Mr Allison, of Masterton, has taken over the Greytown Hotel, Greytown, from Mr J. D. P. Manson. Personal. Mr G. Haigh, who has been in the Greytown Hospital for some weeks, has returned home. Welcome Rain. A welcome rain commencad to fall last night. Owing to the dry spell the pastures have become very hard and the grass somewhat stunted. Kitchen gardens have also suffered and in many cases the hose has been brought into operation.
