METHODIST MISSIONS

AN INTERESTING ADDRESS. There was a good attendance at the Masterton Methodist Church on Wednesday evening to hear an address by - Miss E. M. Rishworth, of Auckland, ; Dominion President of the M.W.M.A. The Rev. F. J. Parker occupied the ; chair. After the singing of a hymn followed ; by prayer, Mrs F. J. Parker officially ; welcomed Miss Rishworth to Master- ; ton, her remarks being endorsed by , the chairman. /•/.■ : A guitar and mandolin duet, “Nearer ; My God to Thee,” was rendered by : Misses E. and O. Beale after which the ; chairman introduced the speaker. Miss Rishworth acknowledged the Welcome accorded by Mr and Mrs Parker. She spoke of the work being done by the missionaries and their wives in the Solomon Islands. With the aid of a map, the speaker pointed out the various stations in the group and described the means of travel from one village to another. Mention was also made of the work of Dr. Allan Rutter, late of Masterton and of his hospital staff. Miss Rishworth referred briefly to the work among the Maoris in various parts of New Zealand and of the origin, aims and objects of the Methodist Missionary Union. A vote of thanks was passed to Miss Rishworth on the motion «of Mrs L. Jansen and seconded by Mrs F. G. Rutter. Supper was served by a committee of ladies in the schoolroom.
