AMATEUR ATHLETICS

MASTERTON CLUB ANNUAL MEETING.

SEASON TO OPEN NEXT MONTH.

There was an attendance of 28 members at the annual meeting of the Masterton Amateur Athletic Club, held last night. Mr A. Wyeth presided. Seventeen new members were elected. Satisfaction with the past season’s operations was expressed in the annual report, which stated that there had been a vast improvement both in the club’s outdoor activities and in the financial position. Reference was made in the report to the club’s part in the Provincial Championships, and its success in winning the Country Club’s Shield. Special mention was made of Mr A. Wyeth’s services as manager of the team, and congratulations were extended to C. Hausman on hisi excellent athletic performances. In conclusion thanks were expressed to the Borough Council for the use of the Park and to the' Park Custodian for his generous assistance during the season. Officers were elected as follow: — Patron, Mr W. A. Todd; president, Mr A. Wyeth; vice-presidents, Messrs G. W. Sellar, F. Dohnt, J. Mannell, S. Gilman, J. Ewington, J. Robertson, T. Wyeth Senr., A. S. Wyeth, F. Kilminster, J. Bradbury, W. Dixon and G. G. Hancox; secretary, Mr M. Sellar; assistant secretary, Mr B. McPherson; handicapper, Mr J. Nyhan; starter, Mr W. Grantham; auditor, Mr A. K. Saunders; delegates to sub-centre, Messrs E. Grantham, J. Watt; club captain, Mr C. Wyeth. ■the opening of the season was fixed for November 2. A cup for inter-house competition was donated by Messrs Sellar and Sellar, who were heartily thanked for their gift. Special reference was made to the services as club captain of Mr Claude Hausman, who has left for Eketahuna.
