A serious outbreak of vandalism has resulted in considerable damage beingdone to civic and State property in various parts of New Plymouth. The seat on Marsland Hill, the scenic vantage point of the town, was forcibly wrenched out of the ground and broken, and deen piles were torn away, making it obvious that the destruction was done by adults. At the entrance a turnstile necessary to keep cattle out of the reserve was destroyed. Two schools in different parts suffered when pohutukawa trees were killed by being ring-barked, and plants and vegetables in the school gardens were rooted up in profusion.
