The Pan-American Airways Philippine Clipper arrived nearly a week late, after averting a forced landing in the approximate area in which the Hawaii Clipper disappeared in July. The passengers showed no signs of panic when the plane dropped from 8,500 feet to 100 feet and one motor failed. The pilot calmly righted the craft and used the three remaining motors.
