FERTILISER WORKS DISPUTE. EFFORTS FOR SETTLEMENT. | (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND. October 19. The 350 men involved in the chemical manure workers’ dispute in Otaauhu returned to work today in terms of a decision of a Trades Hall meeting yesterday afternoon, pending representations, through a committee representing the men and including Mr Lyon, M.P., to the Minister of Labour, for 1 reyiew of the award. A_ Wellington message states that the developments at the Otahuhu fertiliser works were- referred to yesterday by the Minister of Labour, the Hon H. T. Armstrong. He said that instructions had been given to the Labour Department to meet the employers and endeavour to induce them to meet the men over the dispute that had arisen. He pointed out that the fact that the award was a Dominion one made the position less simple than if it had been only an Auckland award. He added that the main point of contention seemed to centre in the question of retrospective pay, about which there was nothing on record.
