“HAPPY HOSPITAL”
FAREWELL TO MATRON BARNITT. PRESENTATION BY BOARD. Tributes to the worth of Miss K. I. Barnitt, who retires next month after being Matron of the Masterton Hospital since 1923, were paid at yesterday’s meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board. In presenting Miss Barnitt with a cheque on behalf of board members and the clerical staff, the chairman, Mr H. H. Mawley, ~ said the Matron had seen the hospital grow from a small institution to the twelfth largest in New Zealand. In the last few years her duties had been far from light as in a way they had been trying to run a large hospital with the organisation of a small one. All would agree that the Matron had always adopted what she .hought was the right course. The best wishes of all members would be extended to Miss Barnitt for the best of aealth and happiness in .the future. Miss Barnitt expressed sincere thanks for the presentation and said she was deeply grateful for the kind ■.’emarks of the chairman. The board nad at all times been most fair and helpful. In the last few years, however, she had felt a lack of contact with ooai’d members. The duties of a Matron could be lightened considerably if the responsibility were shared by members. “We have a good hospital here,” she added, “the results are good and we haVe a happy hospital. The unfailingly happy relations existing between Dr Hosking, the Sisters and myself have been most helpful.” The Matron was later entertained at afternoon tea by board members and was accorded musical honours.
