TOWN FLOWER
adoption by masterton ADVOCATED. IMPROVEMENTS TO FENCES URGED. “The incoming committee should consider the establishment or adoption of a national flower or shrub for Masterton,” was a suggestion put forward by Mr E. M. Hodder at a meeting of the Masterton Beautifying Society last night. Mr Hodder added that if a flower or flowering shrub were adopted it could form the main centrepiece of every garden and public garden. He referred to the success achieved in this direction in the United States, He also suggested that something could be done in Masterton to improve the front fences of private properties. He thought that these fences could be very low, if they were required at all and if the society could get private individuals -to adopt a low form of front fence he was sure it would greatly enhance the appearance of the streets and town. Mr Hodder added that the views of an expert could be obtained as to the most suitable flower or plant for the climate. It was a matter, however, that needed full consideration and discussion.
