LAKE TRAGEDY
BOY DROWNED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, October 16. A drowning accident occurred in Lake Rotorua this afternoon, the victim being a boy of 16, Denver Peter McAdam, son of Mr and Mrs S. McAdam, Rotorua. The boy was one of three who were crossing the lake in a dinghy, which capsized. The other two, Roy Matthews, aged 17, and Murray Matthews, aged 11, were both rescued. When about 100 yards from the shore, the boys decided to change positions in the dinghy, but when they attempted to do so the boat overturned and all three were thrown into the water. Calling for help, they struck out for the shore, their cries being heard by golfers playing on the nearby Government links. Two of the boys were assisted from the water, but McAdam had disappeared and a search was fruitless.
