WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, October 17. In spite of heavy weekend rain, the New Plymouth links were in splendid order today for the third round of the New Zealand women’s golf championship singles. The greens were faster than was expected,, but as soon as players got the feel of them, some splendid putting was seen. A feature of the day was the great competition between Mrs Cluff and Miss Duncan and Miss Horwell and Miss Bell, Miss Duncan and Miss Horwell being the respective winners. The afternoon’s play was a handicap event for the L.G.U. challenge bowl. Results: — Championship.—Third round: Mrs Crombie (Wellington) beat Mrs Grant (Inglewood), 4 and 3; Mrs FullertonSmith (Marton) won by default from Miss Rice (Windham); Miss Stewart (Whangarei) beat Miss Sangster (Stratford), 2 up; Miss Collins (Wellington) beat Miss Smith (Napier), 3 and 2; Miss Duncan (Wanganui) beat Mrs Cliff (New Plymouth), at the nineteenth; Miss Buchanan (Christchurch) beat Miss Pritchard (Dannevirke), 6 and 5; Miss Horwell (Timaru) beat Miss Bell (Wanganui) at the twentieth; Miss Helean (Hastings) beat Miss Dalgleish (Napier), 4 and 2. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, October 17. At the annual meeting of the New Zealand ladies’ golf union at New Plymouth tonight it was decided to hold the next Dominion championship at the Shirley links, Christchurch. Mrs Guy Williams was re-elected patron and Mrs T. D. M. Stout president. Five vacancies on the executive council were filled as follows: South Auckland, Miss S. Snodgrass; Taranaki, Mrs T. Wilson; Wellington, Miss R. E. Gambrill; Canterbury, Mrs M. H. Godby; South Canterbury and North Otago, Mrs E. J. Kerr. Forty delegates were present at the meeting, Mrs Stout presiding.
