DOMINIONS OFFICE
MR MORRISON SUGGESTED AS NEW SECRETARY TEST OF OVERSEA OPINION. REGARDED AS OUTSTANDING MAN. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 9.40 a.m.) LONDON, October 17. The Associated Press says it is learned from the highest authority that the Minister of Agriculture (Mr W. S. Morrison) is eager to have the Dominions post. The Cabinet reshuffle' is almost certain to upset recent calculations, but Mr Morrison’s selection is most likely. There is reason to believe that the feeling of the Dominions is being tested regarding his appointment and should it be found to be favourable, objections on the grounds of his lack of experience in Dominion affairs probably would be outweighed by a recognition of his ability. He is considered one of the outstanding younger men in politics.
CABINET TOMORROW QUESTIONS THAT NEED ATTENTION. FORMATION OF NEW MINISTRIES POSSIBLE. (British Official Wireless.) (Received his Day, 9.40 a.m.) RUGBY, October 17. The Prime Minister (Mr Neville Chamberlain) who is returning to London from Scotland is to preside at Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting. Questions affecting Palestine, the Spanish war, with its reactions on British and Italian relations, the BritishAmerican Trade Pact, consideration of measures to repair defects in defences, and such a reorganisation .of manpower as may be found necessary are generally regarded as being the main subjects that will receive early attention. There is much newspaper speculation as to whether, in addition to filling the vacancies caused by Lord Stanley’s death and Mr A. Duff-Cooper’s resignation, there will be a wider reconstruction of the Cabinet and possibly the formation of Ministries of Supply and National Service.
