“DEAD MAN” RUMOUR
[ SUPPOSED QUEEN STREET INCIDENT. STORY WITHOUT FOUNDATION. A story, which has gained rapid currency has been circulating in town to the effect that a Masterton man died as the result of a blow struck in a scuffle 1 with a youth on Friday night. It has now been ascertained, however, that the supposed “dead man” spent the night in the police cells and next morning was convicted as a first offender for drunkenness. It is believed that a blow was struck, but the victim appeared to be little, if any the worse.
