POWER BOARD MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Tararua Power Board there were present: Messrs J. D. Wilson (chairman), W. Britland, W. Simpson, J. G. Brechin, P. Davies, E. W. Cheetham, C. T. Richardson, J. B. Carruthers, A. W. Bisset, L. Johnson, T. Fouhy, the secre-tary-manager, Mr W. F. Taylor, and the engineer, Mr D. Fraser. It was decided that the Board should undertake the cartage of Mr McGregor’s furniture to Pongaroa. Mr McGregor is the Akitio Accounts for the month amounting to £3297 4s 6d for Eketahuna and £3327 15s 9d for Pahiatua were passed for payment. The purchase of a section, and the plans for a dwelling at Pongaroa, for the Board’s resident official were approved. The chairman asked whether it was not possible that the delay in shipping, due to the coal strike might put back the work on the Akitio reticulation. Mr Fraser replied that this was possible, but they were still hopeful of getting the service in by Christmas time. Cricket Association. At a meeting of the Bush Cricket Association it was decided that the executive be increased to include Messrs Elliott and Mahar of the Marima Club. It was decided to open the season on Saturday, October 29. The closing date of nominations for the association’s competition was fixed at Saturday next. Messrs J. McKay, K. Montgomery. C. C. Smyth and the secretary were appointed as a committee to arrange the fixtures for the ensuing season. Messrs Montgomery and McGregor were appointed selectors. A recommendation was made that the Mauriceville Club be kept off their wicket until it is in playing order. Mr McGregor was authorised to report when this wicket was safe for play. Tennis Club. At the annual meeting of the Eketahuna Tennis Club the election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, Father Sweeney; president, Mr H. E. Greathead; vice-presidents, Messrs R. Dickson, E. Kenny and R. Boyes; secretary and treasurer, Mr F. Horner; club captain, Mr R. Quinlivan; ladies’ captain. Miss B. Boyes; men’s vice-cap-tain, Mr N. Hammond; hon. auditor, Mr M. Shale. The opening day was fixed for Saturday, October 29. It was decided to reduce subscriptions from 25s to £ 1 for men and from 15s 6d to 10s for ladies. Labour Party Dance. The Mauriceville Branch of the New Zealand Labour Party held a very successful dance in the Hastwells Hall. Excellent music was supplied and Mr K. Clemas acted as M.C. Mrs Moriss and Mr J. Rangi sang two songs very nicely. Mr Don Falkner gave two very much appreciated items, and Noel Dick played the mouth-organ very ac-
Herbert. ceptably. The local Maori girls gave a Canoe Poi and Miss Kate Hadfield rendered an exhibition of the “Long Poi, all being heartily encored. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Joan Brown and M. Ngatuere.
