After a spell of very dry, windy weather, and with pastures beginning to show the want of moisture, a welcome rain set in yesterday afternoon, continuing throughout the night. The rain will be appreciated, particularly by those farmers in the Lower Valley, whose land was silted during the last flood, and require a good rain to wash the grass clean. DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB Owing to the heavy wind on Saturday, the competition for Mr L. G. Benton’s Trophy was abandoned. Next Saturday’s competition will be for the Williams and Bidwill Cups. Painting Contract. Mr Fred O’Neale has secured the contract for the painting and renovating the school master’s resident and will commence the work within the next few'days.
