O’BRIEN WINE
Haut-Brion, one of the best known French wines of Bordeaux, should in reality be called “O’Brien.” Samuel Pepys diary mentions O’Brien wine. Lord Clare, who commanded the Irish Brigade at Fontendy, lived in the chateau which still stands amidst the vines, and in his day it was known as the Chateau O’Brien, which became by corruption Haut-Brion.
