KOPUARANGA

TABLE TENNIS SEASON CLOSED. SUCCESSFUL TOURNAMENT. , ("Times-Age” Special.) The Kopuaranga Table Tennis Club closed its season on Thursday evening with a record attendance, visitors being present from Mt Bruce, Mauriceville East and West, Kaiparoro, Winter Sports and Catholic Clubs. Ladies and men’s doubles Yankee tournament were held and all the games were keenly contested. The winners of the ladies’ doubles were Misses J. Larsen and M. Kenny, and of the men’s doubles, Messrs J. Nicholls and C. Hansen. Trophies won during the season were presented to the following:— Men’s championships (senior), H. Rossiter; (junior), Ted Fenemor; ladies’ championships (senior), Mrs Jarrett; (junior), Miss W. Rossiter. Ladder handicap (senior), J. O’Connor; junior, Ben Fenemor; handicap singles, men, C. Jarrett; ladies, Miss E. Jarrett. Championship doubles: Miss E. Jarrett and G. Remnant. Trophies were also presented to Misses R. L. and W. Westhead, H. Rossiter and J. O’Connor for regular attendance at the club. Mr G. Remnant after presenting trophies congratulated the winners and thanked the visitors for attending and helping to make such a success of the closing function. Dahcing completed a very enjoyable evening. Homemade supper was provided by the ladies’ committee. Women’s Institute. The monthly meeting of the Kopuaranga Women’s Institute was held in the hall on Thursday afternoon. Mrs S. J. Clarke presided over a small * attendance of members. Apologies % were received from several’ members who were unable to attend owing to sickness. Mesdames A. Donald and C. Jarrett were appointed to attend the BushWairarapa Federation Council meeting at Eketahuna. The delegates appointed to attend the formation meeting at Masterton were Mesdames W. J. Cottle and R. Kenny. A committee meeting is to be held at Mrs Kenny’s on November 1. Articles for the November competition, novelty from scraps, are to be sold for the Institute funds. The roll call, ”A Riddle,” was responded to by all members. Competition results were as follows: Brown scones: Miss Wright 1. Mrs E. Cottle 2, Mrs Clarke 3. Posy: Mrs Wright 1. Miss Kenny 2. Mrs Kenny and Mrs Evans 3. Best bloom: Mrs A. B. Cottle and Miss M. Wright 1. Mrs Wright 2, Mrs E. Cottle 3. Mrs R. Miller gave an interesting description of her trip from New Zealand to Saskatoon (Canada). A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrse Mil-, ler. » The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames H.
