VOTING ELSEWHERE
t RECORD POLL EXPECTED IN CHRISTCHURCH. QUEUES AWAIT OPENING OF BOOTHS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. ..Queues awaiting the opening of the polling booths were an early indication today of keen interest in the election. The weather was fine,* dull and warm, and there was every indication of a record poll. DAY IN AUCKLAND MAIN BOOTHS HEAVILY TAXED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Queues which awaited the opening of polling booths this morning, and continuous activity throughout the day, presaged a record poll. So crowded were some of the main booths in the city before mid-day that emergency measures had to be taken by the party organisations to divert a portion of the stream of voters to other booths which were less busy. The unprecedented morning rush was due to the fact that large numbers of people employed in factories, warehouses and offices where a five-day week is observed were free to vote early, and that housewives voted during their morning shopping. The day dawned overcast, but during the forenoon the clouds dispersed and the sun broke through, the day being as fine as that of the 1935 general election. Fleets of taxis and private cars bearing party colours were particularly active tnroughout the day. Comparatively few cars were plying for the parties interested in the licensing vote. ■
