ROAD FATALITY

MARTON GIRL KILLED. MOTOR-TRUCK DRIVER ARRESTED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WANGANUI, This Day. Joan Elizabeth Oldfield, aged 18, a resident of Marton, was fatally injured last night when a motor-car in which she was travelling as a passenger was struck by d motor-truck, at the bottom of the Wangaehu Hill. The truck was driven by a Maori named Murdock Rogan, a labourer, aged 29, a resident of Ratana Pa. The accident occurred at 11.30 o’clock and the car, in which was a party, was struck between the front and rear seats, a portion of the lorry striking Miss Oldfield, who was sitting on the rear seat, penetrating her side. On the arrival of the police and Dr. Adams on the scene, the victim was dead. The lorry did not stop but went on to Ratana Pa, returning later. The driver was arrested, brought to Wanganui and charged with negligently driving, thereby causing death. He was remanded till Monday.
