It is stated in official circles that Germany has now made official approaches regarding colonies. It is considered that German expectations might be based on private remarks in the course of the talks between Herr Hitler and Mr Chamberlain. OPINION IN BERLIN THINGS THAT ARE OPEN - TO ADJUSTMENT. (Received This Day, 10.20 a.m.) BERLIN, October 14. “Experience has shown that these things can be adjusted by negotiation, said a Foreign Office spokesman, commenting on the hostility of the South African. Minister for Defence, Mr O. Pirow, to the return to Germany of South-West Africa and Tanganyika. He added: “We have heard so much lately about defence by force of arms, but we do not take such speeches tragically.”
