FEATHERSTON
MEETING OF BOROUGH COUNCIL. ERECTION OF STATE HOUSES. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Mayor, Mr J. W. Card, presided at the monthly meeting of the Featherston Borough Council, held last night. The Housing Department forwarded plans of the section that was to be subdivided for the purchase of erecting 5 State houses. The plan was approved. The council also approved a Public Works Department plan of the road deviation from the Rimutaka Hill to Fitzherbert Street. The deviation will make a much needed improvement in the alignment of the road. It was decided to put a pipe along the bottom of the swimming baths so that a continuous supply of fresh water could be pumped in all the season. It was resolved to close the Borough office all day on Saturday in future. It was decided to purchase £2 worth of Health Stamps and also to pay the council’s quota of £4O 4s to the Centennial Exhibition. The sum of £22 2s will be paid annually for two years. Final approval was given to a scheme to join the Borough library with, the Government’s free country library service.
