MASTERTON RACES

CONCLUSION OF SUCCESSFUL MEETING BIG EVENT TO GALTEEMORE. TWO WINS FOR MR W. DEVON. She hit the front after going a furlong and though challenged at the business end was never headed and won by two lengths from Rotoma. Misurina, Twenty Grand and Silver Fox were handy most of the way with first favourite Larwood tailing the field. The order was unchanged into the straight where White Lady drew away from the bunch to win nicely. Twenty Grand finished fast for third place a head behind Rotoma and Larwood was fourth. LUCULLUS LAD WINS WELL. The locally owned and trained Lucullus Lad scored a convincing win in the Waipipi Handicap. Ashley Jenkins rode him a patient race in the early stages and then hit the front. Ivar, Export and Dungarvan chased the leader into the straight where Lucullus Lad came away well to win by two lengths from Export. The first favourite Race Call was a neck away third and then came Ivar. It was an impressive win. ANOTHER TO OPAKI TRAINER. Nereus gave Opaki its second successive win when Jenkins piloted Nereus home in the Champion Hack. Twilight Song was the pacemaker to the straight entrance, followed by Earl Colossus, Son and Heir and Nereus. The leader hung on well to the distance where Nereus made his successful effort and carried on to win by two lengths from Son and Heir, with Earl Colossus a neck away third. Naughty Marietta was fourth. LAST TO HINERAWE. Sunny Blonde made the pace to the straight in the Farewell Handicap but then fourth favourite Hinerawe hit the front and stayed there to win by two lengths. Hinerawe and Mother-in-Law chased Sunny Blonde to the distance with Raroa lying handy. Hinerawe mowed down Sunny Blonde in the straight and Mother-in-Law came in a neck behind Sunny Blonde. Then came Raroa.
