TOMORROW’S POLL
POSTING OF THE RESULTS ’ ARRANGEMENTS BY “TIMES-AGE” ISSUES BEFORE THE ELECTORS General election results for the whole of the Dominion will be shown tomorrow night on special display boards erected in front of the "Wairarapa Times-Age” building for the convenience of the public. Detailed results also will be given of the polling in the Masterton and Wairarapa electorates for the Parliamentary vote, and for the i.xasterton no-licence issue. Complete arrangements have been made for securing the results as expeditiously as possible. Motorists are reminded that the Masterton Borough Council has decided to exclude motor traffic from Chapel Street in the area adjacent to the -Times-Age” ■ building, from 6.30 o'clock. The street will be roped off at the corners of Jackson Street, Perry Street and Cole Street, and in consequence the W.F.C.A. Ltd parking area will not be available for the use of motorists. The returning officer for the Masterton electorate, Mr O. C. E. Webster, requests voters to use, as far as possible, the booths in the vicinity of their place of residence, rather than proceed to other booths further away, so that congestion at the principal polling places will be avoided. If the voting is well distributed it will greatly assist the officials, and will obviate any unnecessary delay to the public. In the case of the Masterton Municipal Hall, electors will be required, after recording their votes, to leave the hall by the rear exit. A heavy poll is expected. In addition to the selection of members of Parliament, electors ’ will be called upon to vote on the national licensing issue. Three issues will be placed before the electors—-National Continuance, State Purchase and Control and National Prohibition. In certain electorates, including Masterton the local licensing issued will also be placed before electors. The two issues are Local No-Licence and Local Restoration, and for the latter to be carried, a three-fifths majority will be required. The method of voting will be the same as that which obtained at the last General Election. Voters will be required to mark out the names of the candidate or candidates for whom thej do not desire to vote, leaving the name cf their choice untouched. Only one name must be left in the ballot paper, otherwise the vote will be informal. The same system will apply in the case of the licensing issue, electors crossing out those issues which they do not favour. , The polling hours tomorrow will be from 9 a.m. till 7 p.m. MAORI SEATS POLLING TAKES PLACE TODAY The election of the four Maori members to the House of Representatives will take place today. Polling commenced at 9 a.m. and continues until 5 p.m., but deputy returning officers have authority to extend the hours oi voting if circumstances warrant. There will be an important change in the procedure on this occasion. At previous elections Maori electois haveattended at a polling booth and named the candidate for whom they desire to vote, but today, after satisfying deputy returning officers of. their bona tides, they receive printed ballot papeis and vote in secret as do European electors.
