LANSDOWNE SCHOOL
MEETING OF COMMITTEE GOOD PROGRESS WITH NEW BUILDING Mr H. E. Pither presided at the monthly meeting of the Lansdowne School Committee. There were also present Messrs McGregor, Dagg, Fly, Ross, McFarlane and the headmaster, Mr Jones. Accounts amounting to £3 4s lid were passed. A letter was received from the Department of Health in connection with the milk scheme, and it was decided to intimate to the Department that as the new school was still in the course of construction the time was not opportune to initiate the scheme. The headmaster’s report was presented. The attendance showing a roll number of 223, was still affected by sickness among the pupils, but was gradually returning to normal. The highest for the current term was 197. Mr Hills of the staff was relieving at the Wairarapa College, his place being temporarily filled by Mrs S. A. Stewart. The annual visit by the Department’s Inspectors had taken place during the month, when Messrs McCaskell, Stubbs and Partridge had expressed themselves as well satisfied with the work. Very satisfactory progress was being made with the new school, and the adjoining grounds were in the best of order.
