FEATHERSTON

GUN DOG TRIALS. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the Gun Dog Trials held on Sunday at the Lake Reserve, Mr Alex McLeod, junr, won the novice water trial, with his Irish water spaniel, “Alanah,” gaining 92 points. Leod, junr, won with his Irish water spaniel “Alanah,” gaining 92 points. Tennis Club Meeting. At the annual meeting of the Featherston Tennis Club Mr K. H. Allen occupied the chair. In referring to the report Mr Allen stated that the club was runner-up in the Southern Section last season. The courts had played well during the season. The club had lost several good players at the end of the season, which was a serious loss, but there were a number of new players coming on. The balance sheet showed that the year started with a credit balance of £lO 14s and finished with a credit balance of £1 11s lOd.

The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—Patron, Mr R. W. Matthews; president, Mr K. H. Allen; vice-presidents, Misses Card and Viles, Messrs J. W. Card, N. C. C. Shepherd, H. R. Bloxam, D. H. S. Riddiford, Henry Buck, G. S. Sharp, D. C. Kibblewhite, and W. H. Rowles; hon secretary, Mr James Thurston; hon treasurer, Mr McWilliams; club captain, Mr W. Rowles; hon auditor, Mr J. M. G. McKenzie; general committee, Misses D. Benton, M. Tocker, M. McLeod, Bloxam, and Mr A. W. Hart; ground committee, Messrs K. H. Allen, W. H. Rowles and A. W. Hart; delegate to Lawn Tennis Association, Mr W. H. Rowles; delegate to Combined Sports committee, Mr Henry Buck. It was decided not to enter for the Wairarapa Lawn Tennis competitions, but to arrange friendly matches. Card Tournament. The Fire Brigade weekly card tournament was well attended. The prize winners were: Ladies, Mrs Lowell 1; Mrs Simmonds 2. Men, Mrs Anderson--1; Mr L. A. Crawford 2. Personal. Mr C. Melhuish is visiting his parents at Petone. Mr Cliff Asslon, of Wellington, is spending a holiday in Featherston, being the guest of Mr and Mrs Juno. Pihautea Cricket Club. The members of the Pihautea Cricket Club held their annual dance last night when the trophies won during the season were presented.
