MR A. DUFF-COOPER

EXPLANATION ACCEPTED BY COMMITTEE BUT POLICY OF GOVERNMENT SUPPORTED (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 9.22 a.m.) RUGBY, October 12. Mr A. Duff "Cooper has explained to the Executive Committee of the Conservative Association in his constituency his reasons for his resignation as First Lord of the Admiralty. A resolution was carried realising that, having held his views, no other course was open to him. The committee, however, declared themselves in complete agreement with Mr Neville Chamberlain’s actions, and with the Government’s policy, and satisfied that Mr Duff-Cooper, as long as he remains their member, will direct his efforts and ability to the preservation of unity in the Party, and will support the Government especially in the strengthening of defences.
