WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Kahutara branch of the Women’s Institute held its monthly meeting in the Kahutara Hall yesterday afternoon. Mrs McKenna presided over a good attendance. An apology for absence was received from Mrs Fuge. . The competitions resulted as follows: —Senior class: Sponge roll, Mrs Hood, 1; Mrs Siemonek, 2; Mrs Rendle, 3. Cut blooms: Mrs M. Vfilson, 1; Mrs Welch, 2; Mrs Pope, 3. Junior class: Worked guest towel, Miss B. Rendle, 1; Miss L. Hood, 2; Miss J. Hood, 3. Cut blooms: Miss P. Warrington, 1; Miss B. Warrington, 2; Miss P. Nikolison, 3. The tea hostesses were: Mesdames Rogers, Pope, Wilton and Willis. Masonic Party. The annual children’s party given by St. John’s Masonic Lodge was held last night. It has been the custom of the lodge for many years td hold this gathering on the night following the installation meeting, and it is always eagerly looked forward to by the children. The children spent a happy time and thoroughly enjoyed the good things provided by the lodge. Cricket Club Social. In the interests of the Featherston Cricket Club a social was held at the home of Mr and Mrs Lynskey last night, when euchre was played. The winners were:—Ladies: Mrs Watson, 1; Mrs Cuff, 2. Men: Mr Rae, 1; Mr Cuff, 2. Consolation: Mrs Rae and Mr J. Saba. In the lucky number Mrs Holland was the winner. The lucky tea cup competition was won by Mrs Sim and the box of chocolates by Mrs Staples. The prizes were donated by townspeople. Mr Leslie, on behalf of those present, thanked Mr and Mrs Lynskey for their hospitality. Haunui Croquet Club. The Haunui Croquet Club opened its season yesterday in fine weather. There was a good attendance of members. Mrs Riddiford (patroness) declared the lawns open. Shoulder sprays were presented to Mrs Riddiford and the president, Miss Eva Card. Competitions resulted as follows: — Ladder, Mrs Riddiford; hoops, Mrs Carly on; to and fro, Mrs Blain. Bowling Tournament. A team of bowlers, Messrs B. Fuge, J. Anderson, L. James and H. Rolls (skip) participated in the tournament held at Otaki. Having won the same competition last year, the team left with high hopes, but did not win a game. Conditions were not pleasant for bowling, a gale blowing and the weather being very cold. National Party Meeting. At a meeting of the Women’s Auxiliary of the National Party held in the Anzac Hall, Mrs Riddiford presided over a large attendance. Mrs Riddiford addressed the meeting during the course of which she mentioned that when the Reform Party went out of office they left a balance in hand of £250,000. while the Lang Party in New South Wales (with approximately the same population as New Zealand), after their socialistic experiment, went out of office leaving a deficit of £14,000.000. The women’s committee have now disbanded. The men’s committee has also been disbanded.
