MAURICEVILLE

WOMEN’S DIVISION BOOK CLUB. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Mauriceville Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union Book Club was held at the home of Mrs S. Jermy on Saturday, when Miss G. Heckler presided. The balance sheet was adopted, the finances being in a good condition. In her report Miss Heckler thanked those members who had given their time as librarians and it was agreed that they carry on each month as before. Miss G. Heckler Wes’ re-elected president and Mrs Jermy secretary. The purchase of new books was left in the hands of Mrs Childs. It was decided to hold a function at some future date to raise funds. Afternoon tea was served and the meeting brought to a close with a vote of thanks to the hostess. Tennis Club. The annual meeting of the Mauriceville Tennis Club was held in the hall on Thursday, Mr Jas McGovern presiding. The balance sheet and report were adopted. Mr McGovern was re-elected chairman and Mr K. L. Palmer secretary. The following committee was also elected: Misses A. and J. McGovern, E. Wilkin and Messrs H. Myers, H. Milner, F. Morrell, A. Wilkin, J. McGovern, and K. Palmer. Mr H. Milner was elected club captain and Mr F. Morrell vicecaptain. Subscriptions were fixed at the same as last season. The courts are now in splendid condition and it was decided to open the season on Saturday, October 22 and to hold a dance in the evening of Labour Day, October 24. Dance. The local branch of the W.D.F.U. will hold a dance in the hall on October 18 in celebration of its 13th birthday. The ladies of the division can be relied upon to provide only the best and the function is sure to prove most popular.
