HAWAIIAN ORCHESTRA
The public of Masterton will again have the opportunity of hearing the Hawaiian Orchestra and Venetian Band conducted by Mr E. Larsen, in the Opera House on Tuesday evening, October 18. This orchestra, the first of its kind in Masterton, has presented recitals in this town for the last 8 years. This year a slight change has been made in the programme in that a trio for cornet, violin and piano has been included in the list of attractions. This should be of special interest to lovers of brass music. Another popular item should be a quarter for piano accordion, cello and two violins. This is a somewhat novel arrangement of instruments, and the orchestration is the work of Mr E. Larsen. A sextette for violins and cello is also a pleasing innovation. The orchestra will be heard several times, the opening number being the ever popular “Whistling Rufus,’' which is familiar to radio listeners. The Venetian Band will play a number of marches and a medley of South American airs. The soloist for the evening is Mr Dilnot Wales, who, it will be remembered sang so acceptably at a concert of the Masterton Orchestral Society. The recital will commence at 8 o’clock.
