CARTERTON

MASONIC LODGE VISIT. ("Times-Age” Special.) The annual visit of members of St Andrew's Masonic Lodge (Wellington) to the Carterton Lodge took place on Saturday nignt. The visitors were given a cordial welcome and spent a pleasant evening, a return visit will be made early in February. , Epidemic of Measles. Several fresh cases of measles were recorded in Carterton last week.. Main Sewer Blocked. An anxious time was experienced by the Carterton borough overseer and staff, on Friday afternoon and Saturday when it became known that the main sewer in High Street had become blocked. Every effort was made to remove the obstruction without breaking up the main road but without avail. The obstruction was subsequently removed. Carter Home. The monthly meeting of the Carter Home Committee was held on Saturday. The Deputy Mayor (Mr E. McKenzie) presided in the.absence of the Mayor (Mr D. L. Taverner). There were also present Councillors J. Udy, C. J. De Lacey and the Rev W. F. Stent. The visitors' for the month reported that everything was going along smoothly at the institutions and that the inmates were in good health. One of the old men who was in the Masterton Hospital was reported to be much improved and would shortly return to the Home. Accounts amounting to £99 were passed for payment. The visitors for the current month, are the Rev W. F. Stent and the secretary, Mr J. S. Laurensen. Memorial Square. The Memorial Square in Cqrterton is attracting great admiration at present as it is looking very beautiful. The lawns are green and velvety and the fine old elms are just commencing to assume their spring foliage. Perhaps the brightest corner is that where an exquisitely tinted Japanese maple, backed by a golden kowhai, is growing near some vivid pink rhododendrons. The borders are beginning to bloom and the roses look as if they may be out for show week. >•
